New Year, New You. . . Not So Much

Nothing New Happening here

For the most part the year has begun with silence. Not that I dislike silence, it happens to be a favorite theme of mine. But since I have published my first novel I am supposed to be out there making a lot of noise to generate sales.

I do love sales. But even better than sales is being told that my story was good. That it kept the reader's attention, and better yet, they want to read the next book in the series. And Yay! I got that!

I cunningly used my turn in the book club I belong to, to recommend my book. Pushing aside any negativity I harbored about people who self-promote, I took the leap and did it anyway. And I was pleasantly greeted by my readers who enjoyed the story and had questions and comments to share. I have been told my writing is delightful, whimsical and that the magic really shines.

In addition to my novel, Once Again: Tales of Destiny, I have also just published my hobby magazine Intangience. I collect stories and poetry from writers who live all over the world. This first issue of 2019 focuses on the Pacific Northwest. Either the writers live here or have visited the region. A few simply imagined what it would be like. I enjoy creating the magazine, finding the works to use and mostly finding beautiful pictures to represent the poetry or stories I include. 

Now if anyone wishes to submit anything for the next issue, here is a poem I wrote for a contest asking me to describe what makes a great poem for me:

DO'S and DON'TS ( For Me)

Or should I say Don'ts and Do's
Don't rail against society
It doesn't capture me
Don't flail about in too much variety
Keep it simple, please.

I much prefer a shorter poem.
A shorter poem will do.
I much prefer a little rhyme.
A little rhyme or two.

Do make it magical 
Let me enter into the dream.
Do make it lyrical, 
make me want to sing.

I want to sigh and feel a tug
On my heart or mental strings.
Play that music, touch my soul
Expand my mind on things.

Do's and Don'ts, Don'ts and Do's
It changes by the day
Depending on my taste I'll say
Now this is what I choose.

I wrote it a year ago . . . but I must say my tastes have not changed . . . again New Year, New You does not seem to apply very strongly to me. But ya know there is always tomorrow.

Submissions for the June issue can be posted through the link on this site. Or simply email me at bsdottr@gmail.com. Include the words "submission for June" so I know what it is. The theme is not fully developed yet, but anything about summer will do. 

One final poem and that will be all for now. (And yes it is a different version of a previous poem. See? Not so new!)
